Rent a boat during Amsterdam Light Festival
At Mokumboot it is possible to rent your own boat or book a cruise during the Amsterdam Light Festival to admire the light artworks.
PLEASE NOTE: the information on this page refers to the now closed 12th edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival. The 13th edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival is scheduled from November 28, 2024 to January 19, 2025. More information will follow.
Amsterdam Light Festival times
Experience the 12th edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival from the water and book a cruise or rent your own sloop at Mokumboot. The festival will take place from November 30, 2023 to January 21, 2024. The lights will be on on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. On Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
- Christmas holidays (December 23 to January 6): every day until 11 p.m
- New Year’s Eve (December 31): all lights remain off
- December 8: in connection with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Nemo Science Museum, there will be closures at Oosterdok (between Nemo and Marineterrein) between 6:00 PM and 7:15 PM.

Sailing yourself during the Amsterdam Light Festival
With us you have the opportunity to sail yourself during the Amsterdam Light Festivals. Our comfortable, open sloops are easy to steer, suitable for up to 6 people and you do not need a boating license. The advantages of renting a sloop during the Amsterdam Light Festival are that you decide for yourself how long you admire the light artworks and which route you sail.
Amsterdam Light Festival on the tour boat
At Mokumboot you can enjoy the Amsterdam Light Festival on our tour boat, the Begijnhof. The luxury sloop can accommodate up to 35 people, so invite your friends, family or colleagues for an impressive outing on the canals of Amsterdam. Choose a nice drink on the water, we will arrange the drinks and snacks.

How we communicate, connect and create is all influenced by technology and AI. What is the impact of this on our humanity? How is society changing due to this digital evolution? And where are the boundaries? The different perspectives are highlighted during Edition 12, with the theme: LOADING… Revealing Art, AI and Tech.

20+ light artworks by international artists
The route consists of more than twenty light artworks by international artists. From renowned names to surprising newcomers and everything in between. A diverse selection. The 12th edition takes a closer look at our relationship with personal tech, first and foremost the mobile phone – we can’t live without it anymore, but sometimes you just want to throw that thing in the ditch. Topics such as swarm intelligence, self-learning algorithms, facial recognition and motion capture are also discussed.
Edition 12 is a translation of, or commentary on, that all-encompassing and ubiquitous technology that we rely on so much, that is so inextricably linked to our daily lives. What’s to come?
