“Edition 14: Legacy”

The upcoming edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival revolves around the theme “Legacy”. From 27 November 2025 to 18 January 2026, twenty international light artworks will illuminate the canals of Amsterdam. With this theme, artists pose the question: how do we want to be remembered, and what do we leave behind for future generations?

Every generation faces challenges—some inherited from our predecessors, others created by ourselves. Using light as their medium, the artists present personal stories and monumental installations that together form a living archive of our time. A unique experience you can discover yourself from the water in a Mokumboot boat.

Next to this, you see an impression of an artwork created especially for Edition 14 of the © Amsterdam Light Festival.

20 light artworks by international artists

The artists interpret the theme in their own way, resulting in a surprising mix of forms and styles. From monumental structures that transform bridges and quays to intimate installations that tell subtle stories – together they give the city a completely new appearance.

Along the route through the UNESCO canal district, you experience Amsterdam as an open-air museum of light. Whether you choose a walking tour or a boat trip in a Mokumboot, everywhere you go you’ll discover new perspectives on the city and its legacy.
