Our Mokum is beautiful and most beautiful from the water! Friends Marcel, Martijn and Michael spent a lot of time on the water together. They wanted to share the free feeling on the Amsterdam canals with as many people as possible. This is how Mokumboot was founded in 2009 with the rental of boats on which you can be the captain yourself. Mokumboot is now a proud and established Amsterdam name, where you can rent boats in no fewer than nine places in the city.

In 2024, Mokumboot will start a new canal cruise adventure and we will also show you the Amsterdam canals from open boats. Along the way we will tell you everything about our city and typical Mokum anecdotes.

Our goal is to offer every guest and tenant a unique Amsterdam experience. We do this by having fun ourselves. Informal, friendly and always evolving. We are proud of Mokum(boot)!

Purpose of the position

Creating unforgettable memories for our guests! So that when they think back to their visit to Amsterdam, you put that smile on their face again. The first thing you do is by navigating the Amsterdam canals safely and professionally on a boat that is in perfect condition. You also do this with an enthusiastic story about Amsterdam and by being a great hostess. As a pleasant colleague, you also contribute to a fun working day, so that we as a team make a difference together.

Tasks

• You are hostess/host on board and on the quay.
• You make boat trips according to route and charter trips.
• You will provide live guides during the cruises, using… script.
• You welcome our guests on the quay.
• You actively sell tickets.
• You perform card control.
• You sell and serve drinks and food on board. You carry out start-up/shutdown tasks depending on your schedule.
• You carry out maintenance and cleaning work on board so that the boat and the experience are optimal for every guest and colleague.
• You carry out additional (quality) control and administrative tasks and record them correctly (for example in the logbook).
• You inform the duty manager and/or colleagues quickly and adequately about details and/or emergencies.
• As a flexible team player, you contribute to making every Mokumboot day a good day.
• You are representative and an ambassador for Mokumboot.
• You can be widely deployed to achieve Mokumboot’s results and objectives.

Personal characteristics

• You are positive and cheerful.
• You feel like making today another day with a smile.
  In addition to being a good and safe skipper, you are a hospitable person who likes to take guests on the beautiful Amsterdam canals and enjoy them with historical stories and anecdotes.
• You are someone who sees that with an extra step or attention you can provide a 6-star experience and you take that step.
• You have a representative appearance.
• You have correct manners and understand what you can and cannot say.
• You are proactive, work independently and are a team player.

Qualifications

• In possession of a swimming diploma.
• Command of English and Dutch language.
• Other foreign languages ​​that are often spoken by tourists are an advantage.
• Available 8 to 40 hours, including at least one weekend day per week.
• Shift times can vary between 8:00 AM and 2:00 AM.
• Experience with sailing on the Amsterdam canals is an advantage.
• Possession of a ‘social hygiene’ diploma is an advantage (or willingness to obtain this in the short term).
